About

Karinne, a Yale Engineering & Science (YES) Scholar, is a senior (Class of 2026) at Yale University in New Haven, CT. She is a proud Saybrugian (Saybrook College) pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Ecology & Evolutionary Biology on the Biodiversity & the Environment track. After Yale, she plans to attend graduate school to obtain a Ph.D. to pursue an academic career in the field of avian migration.

Traveling

  • Karinne loves to explore new places. Nationally, she has visited Yellowstone National Park, Glacier National Park, and Acadia National Park. Abroad, she has journeyed to both Chile and Panama!

Cooking

  • From Hell’s Kitchen to Masterchef, Karinne discovered a passion for the culinary arts through Gordon Ramsay and experiments in her mother’s kitchen
  • She is a major foodie and loves to try new restaurants in New Haven!

Hot Chocolate Parties

  • Karinne loves to invite her friends from all walks of life for all types of fun: movie nights, karaoke nights, and more!
  • She is famous for serving the best dorm-made hot chocolate around. Be on the lookout for her next “Hot Chocolate Party!”

Languages

  • During high school summers, Karinne spent hours working towards her lifelong dream of being a polyglot.
  • Having learned Spanish in school since first grade, she has dabbled in French, Italian, Portuguese, Hebrew, and Chinese.

Games

  • Karinne loves to spend evenings with games on the table—from euchre to Catan to Monopoly to Wingspan…

Music

  • Karinne learned to play the clarinet and piano in fifth grade
  • She taught herself guitar and is now learning the harmonica

Puzzles

  • Karinne loves a morning New York Times Connections, Strands, and Crossword as well as Sudoku or a good ol’ jigsaw puzzle—the more pieces the better!

Reading

  • Karinne loves stories—of all shapes and sizes!

Outdoors

  • Karinne grew up on her hometown’s nature trails
  • She spent several summers kayaking the Huron River and exploring Michigan’s beautiful coastline.
  • She loves to camping and stargazing.

  • Karinne played soccer for nine years and still loves to watch professional games.
  • Now, she is all about pickleball!
