Show Coordinator | Yale (Club) Ballroom Dance Team (YBDT) | Yale University

• YBDT is collective of undergraduate, graduate, and professional students who are passionate about the elegance of dancesport. Founded in 1988, the group is devoted to teaching and supporting a lifelong love of ballroom dance through professional coach lessons, seminars, competitions, and social dancing.

• Ballroom dancing encompasses 19 competitive styles: International styles (Standard and Latin), American styles (Smooth and Rhythm), and social styles (Salsa, Bachata, West Coast Swing, and more).

• Karinne organizes and produces biannual shows for the team as well as performs and competes in all four styles of dance. This past year, she attended both the Brown Ballroom Dance Competition and Columbia’s Big Apple Dancesport Competition (BADC) as well as choreographed three pieces for the Spring Showcase 2024!

Event Supervisor | “Feathered Friends” | Washtenaw Elementary Science Olympiad

• WESO is a non-profit organization dedicated to science education enrichment for elementary students in Washtenaw County, MI with a mission of enhancing the quality of science education and increasing student interest and outstanding achievement in STEM activities; “Feathered Friends” is an annual event in which elementary students are tested on bird identification by sight and sound, anatomy, life history, and habitat

• Created the curriculum and test materials, supervised participants during the competition, and graded exams

• The MYBN organizes and leads monthly network meetings for young birders across the state

• Camp COVID was a virtual free educational after-school club run by high school students for children ages 5-10. Their mission was to help children remain connected during the COVID-19 pandemic through fun activities.

• Participated in the annual Christmas Bird Count, May Count, Swifts Night Out, Beginner Birders walks, monthly events, and weekend field trips
• Independently surveyed an area of Ann Arbor for the annual Natural Area Preservation Breeding Bird Survey through general habitat surveys, point counts, and nest box monitoring during the 2021 and 2022 summers

• Grew membership to 115 across four high schools in the Ann Arbor Public Schools district; organized biweekly meetings to discuss avian-related news, shared local bird sightings, advertised webinar programs, taught basic bird identification, led weekly walks at city parks, and conducted Ann Arbor’s first “Birdability” surveys

• Launched the “Bins for Birders” Initiative, receiving $2,000 from the City of Ann Arbor’s Sustaining Ann Arbor Together Grant program to purchase seven pairs of binoculars and a spotting scope to promote birding among the general public
